he's reading... but now can we get him to please wipe his own bum!? :)

Honestly. When you have a 3 and a half year old you start to think that you aren't going to see as many 'firsts' but whoa was I wrong! :) I am just having a BLAST with these 'firsts' (well for the most part anyway). There are definitely some good firsts and bad firsts going on lately. Malachi is becoming intensely independent (uh, I'm positive that he gets that from his mom;).

Here are a list of his latest 'firsts'
  • we went on a 'mommy/Malachi afternoon the other day and he wanted to go 'shopping' for shoes (really!? :) ~ the shoes he was hoping to find however were "Heely's" and Baseball/Soccer cleats.  I simply LOVED the moment where he walked up to the associate in the shoes department at Kohl's and asked if they have any 'Heely's in stock' for him.
  • They didn't, which was a bummer but we ended up finding cleats for him that day which he was super excited for.  His first cleats. :)
  •
  •  Then we had his first real Baseball Bat (the Tball style metal bat) ... you think about your child sleeping with a teddy bear, or something else close to his heart.  Well, my Malachi has always slept with sports toys, or a truck or something.  It's really quite funny actually.  The deal is that he can't 'play' with them while he is sleeping ~ and he doesn't ~ he really just loves to hold and think about his sports 'stuff'
  • We had a not so pleasant first last night.  M's first time wiping his own booty.  OMGosh.  Lately this has been a really sad and funny thing.  He has been spending a lot of time with his older cousin Bo and because Erik always wipes Elijah's booty for him I have sort of followed suit and wiped M for him... I didn't really think about how that works when I am not around and M thinks someone other than himself should always wipe his bum, so he's been victimizing poor Bo (a clean freak) and upsetting him.  So last night I forced M to wipe himself and boy was that a temper tantrum! yikes! :)
  • Other firsts... he is pretty much reading at this point.  Well, not like chapter books or anything ~ but if we sit with him for long enough to sound out a word and put it together he typically gets the word read ~ which is fantastically amazing to me.  My mom said that I was reading at M's age... but it just feels so young to be doing something so 'old' especially when you are reading and sounding out words before you can wipe your own bum.
