Labor Day 2010

Until a couple of months ago it has been a LONG time since I thought camping was cool.  To be honest, I've been one of those 'snobby' cabin campers for some time now (thank my past history of affording me that to a point...).  Until a few months ago when Erik, me and Malachi met up with Matt and Kathy for lunch at deception pass.  We didn't have plans necessarily of camping, but we brought our little tent and an overnight bag and ended up having a blast as a little family camping all inside our peanut tent :)

Here is a utube movie I made of a lot of the pics as a slide show - there were so many cute ones I couldn't decide which on to choose :)

This year, for Labor Day Erik and I hadn't made any plans until right before... and it was so much fun to go camping with the boys and we joined up with a few other families :) It was such a fun weekend, I want to have a camp-out every Labor Day weekend from now on if I can :)

We arrived on Friday night, via the EDMONDS ferry (got it wrong the first time ;)... Candice, Ashley, Anh had taken dinner on ~ we had yummy Salmon burgers and corn and got to setting up our tent :)

Erik was wiped out from a long week/long day at work and it was sort of late, the boys were down getting to sleep so he let me go visit with my friends from my old mom's group while he hung out in a more quiet atmosphere - I think Matty ended up joining him.  I went and caught up with my buddies Kathy, Anh, Candice & Ashley... we had lots of fun - it has been awhile since I have seen these ladies and I always love catching up on the stories with their little babes and families :)

yikes... thanks for the summary of my abilities the following morning to dress myself Kathy ;)

The favorite part of that night for me was when I got this huge burst of smoke in my face ... we were drinking wine by the fire (maybe not a good idea!?) and then I got a big wind of it in my eyes and I jumped out of my seat and onto Anh! :) I spilled her wine all over her... oops! Sorry Anh! ;)

The next morning we woke up to a bunch of wet stuff everywhere.  Oops :) I guess we forgot we were camping in Washington ;) It was fine though... stuff dried, kids played, parents laughed, went to the beach - funny was when Elijah and Malachi got stuck in the mud :)

ha ha ;) sorry Erik! he had to go and get them out of their mess... such a sweet daddy :) All the dogs were having a blast too, it was just really great weather and not hot, yet not cold... actually ... I wish it would have been a bit warmer, but whatever, we survived:)

Candice & Anh (and families) had prior arrangements for the rest of the weekend, so they departed and us and the Pisuts and the (other) Boyd family (Ashley - is it the Boyd family, or the Boyd/Le family if your name isn't Boyd!?) good question.

Both Elijah and Gwyn start kindergarten this year... they have been play date buddies since they were 2 or 3 years old, so it's really cute to see them play together now :)  The night we came home from camping Elijah expressed his love to us for his Gwynnie :) awe... but they do play well together, and Malachi is a good blend :)  He's catching on so quickly as he tends to try to run with Elijah and his buddies as opposed to little Quint/Ethan and Ava type of age range...

The other fun highlight of the camping trip for me was teaching the boys how to play slap jack.  It was lots of fun to break out regular playing cards for the first time with them.  It's always been 'Thomas' 'Old Maid' etc... but this time I showed them a deck of cards and how to play a game and it was lots of fun :) Erik and I enjoy playing cards when we hang out so it's fun to teach the boys that as I think it's a fun pastime.

  2. agreed!! :) I think we should play darts the weekend before open registration for camping happens for WA state... and then whenever the dart hits the spot on the map that's where we go! :) (mind you... we'll only have like 15 open 'options...) and whoever can come can come ;)
